How can you save on pesticides using Pessl’s weather stations?
Today we are in Boțești commune, Vaslui county, at the orchard SC Livada Boțești SRL , where we will talk with engineer Agafiței Panaite. In this orchard SC Livada Boțești SRL, approximately 130 hectares are worked, only with the orchard.
Panaite uses Pessl’s weather stations on the farm to be able to use as little pesticides as possible, since he no longer sprays as a warning, but takes into consideration the functions of the weather data that the station offers him.
“I noticed that compared to other years when I used to spray every 10-12 days, now if it doesn’t rain and I don’t have humidity, I don’t have the conditions for rapa, flouring, the diseases , then I don’t spray. If I have conditions, I spray, if I don’t, I won’t spray.”
Why did Agafiței Panaite choose the Pessl weather station?
“I chose the weather station at a symposium about 5 or 6 years ago.Back then I was introduced to the station and it was like,, wow’’. I think I was one of the first who bought it and I don’t regret it at all. Regarding the diseases function, I can say I am very satisfied. If it tells me it is raining, I know to spray or not to spray so I do not spray on the wet. And it worked very well for me, after a few hours I knew if it was starting to rain. I am satisfied with all the information the station gives me, the temperature and the conditions.”
“I took the time to do treatments when needed, depending on the economic threshold and to catch the moment of the treatment. If you don’t have it and don’t know when, then you’re splurging for nothing. I find the disease prevention service useful because I know exactly when to spray. ”
What are Panaite’s plans for modernizing his farm in the future?
“Now I really want to modernize. I still want moisture probes and I understand that there is a system that notifies us 24 hours in advance if the frost is coming. I also want a system for salt, soil temperature and more. ”
The mobile application – the solution for monitoring your crops!
“I honestly use the phone 99% of the time, because in the area where I am now, we didn’t have aelectricity until last year. Because we are in the field 24 hours a day, the most handy is the phone. I mean, I check what was the temperature , and the thing that helped me the most was to always know precisely what temperatures I had in the orchard. What temperature I had and for how long! For example, last year on April 2 we had 13.45 degrees. That way I can see how the plant resists based on the minimums. ”
