The advantages of XAG agricultural drones
Agricultural drones are the technological innovation that 2022 year brought to agriculture in Romania. Although they have been available on the market for several years, we can say that starting this year both the number of companies providing these solutions and the number of farms using agricultural drones have increased enough to move out of the niche area into the area of use at large scale or mainstream.
What should you consider when buying an agricultural drone?
Just exactly like purchasing an agricultural machine (because this is how the purchase of a drone should be treated like), the farmer must take several aspects into account. For example, when choosing a tractor, not only the power of the engine is relevant, or when choosing a machine to apply fertilizers, not only capacity is being taken into account. That is precisely why we set out to explain some of the elements of an XAG drone.
An agricultural drone will be purchased with the main purpose of carrying out phytosanitary treatments, so we will have to choose the drone with the most efficient spraying system. In a drone, the spray system consists of one or more pumps and application nozzles.
XAG’s V40 and P40 models come equipped with two peristaltic pumps. These types of pumps, very different from those found on a classic spraying machine, have numerous advantages.
What are the main advantages of XAG agricultural drones?
✅the pump does not come into contact with the substance, thus the risk of contamination is eliminated.
✅does not contain gaskets or other sealing elements, so there is no risk of leakage of corrosive and dangerous substances
✅extremely easy to replace components in case of need
✅high flow, which can be changed quickly
✅low energy consumption
✅can work with very viscous substances or solid particles in suspension
You can see how such a pump works in this video clip⬇️
What spraying system are XAG agricultural drones equipped with?
The second important thing about the spray system is their spray nozzles. They have a crucial role in spraying efficiently, achieving the dispersion and droplet size of substances. And if in the case of classic machines for applying phytosanitary treatments, small amounts of chemicals are mixed with large amounts of water, in the case of drones the amount of water with which the chemicals are mixed is much reduced, thus the resulting mixture being much more viscous or with suspended solids. In this situation, classic nozzles will have trouble keeping the droplet size constant during spraying and have a high chance of clogging.
The models from XAG completely solve these inconveniences by using the RevoSpray™ system. This system uses centrifugal atomizing nozzles. The mode of operation of these nozzles is similar to the spreading mode of MAs. The substance to be sprayed falls on a rotating disk, which is driven by an electric motor. By changing the speed with which the disk is rotated, it is possible to change very easily, even during the flight, the size of the drops as well as the width of application.
You can see how the RevoSpray™ system works in the following clip⬇️
Where can you find more information about XAG agricultural drones?
At Vantage, we set out to learn together with farmers, but also share as much information as possible about the field of agricultural drones. For example, on our YouTube channel, you can see agricultural drones in action, both spraying and applying solids.
